New Zealand Online Advertising Revenue Growth Up 26.9% in Fiscal 2011


Growth in online advertising revenues in New Zealand rebounded to a rate of 26.9%, to produce total revenues of
$NZ 292m in the fiscal year (FY) ending 30 June 2011, according to industry-sourced statistics compiled by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and published by the online industry’s peak trade association the Internet Advertising Bureau of New Zealand (IABNZ).

The 26.9% growth rate in total online advertising revenues in FY 2011 was the strongest grow reported by the industry in three years on a fiscal year basis.

Growth was strong and above the average four year trend rate for each of the three online categories during the fiscal year.
The Search & Directories online category experienced the strongest growth in FY 2011, increasing by 36.8% to reach $NZ 112m. The Display category rose to $NZ 89m on growth of 28.9%, while the Classifieds category realised revenues of $NZ 91m on lesser growth of 14.5% in FY 2011.

Over the past four fiscal years, the Search and Directories category experienced the strongest annual growth rate at 31.4% and consequently its share of total online advertising revenues increased from 28.6% in FY 2008 to 38.4% in FY 2011, making it the largest of the three online categories.
